Your Guide to Meissen Finishes
A finish decides more than it's given credit for. It's the difference between a bathroom that reads as finished and one that reads as considered, the last decision in a room full of decisions, and often the one that gets rushed. Tile, stone and cabinetry set the palette. The tapware finish is what catches the light.
Here's how to think about each one.
Satin Brass, for a bolder interior
Warm, low-sheen and unmistakably rich, Satin Brass is the finish for anyone building a space with a point of view. It sits somewhere between traditional brass and the softer "living finish" aesthetic that's been having a moment, without the maintenance concerns that come with genuinely unlacquered metal. Against deep tile, timber joinery or a moody palette, Satin Brass doesn't just complement the room, it grounds it. It's the detail that makes a space feel curated rather than assembled.
Best against: terracotta and burgundy tone tile, walnut and dark oak cabinetry, deep sage or forest-green walls.
Available across Vita, Attivo, Aurum, Avilo and Velina.
Double Black, for a space that needs an edge
Where Satin Brass adds warmth, Double Black adds contrast. It's the finish for a room that's doing everything right tonally but still feels like it's missing a full stop: a pale stone counter, a soft plaster wall, a considered vessel basin, all waiting for one dark, matte line to bring the composition into focus. Double Black reads modern without reading cold, and it photographs as well as it lives, which is exactly why it's become a favourite for a single, deliberate accent rather than a whole-room finish.
Best against: pale terrazzo and limewash, sage and stone-toned walls, natural stone basins.
Available across the working collection range in wall-mounted and deck-mounted configurations.
Graphite, for when you can't decide
Not every bathroom wants to make a statement, and Graphite is the finish for the ones that don't, without falling back on plain chrome. It has enough depth to feel intentional and enough restraint to sit quietly against almost anything: warm timber, cool marble, soft neutrals. It's the finish we recommend most often when someone is torn between two directions, because it rarely clashes with either.
Best against: mixed materials, timber and marble in the same room, warm and cool tones side by side, anywhere a single strong finish might force a choice the room doesn't need to make.
Available across Attivo, Aurum, Velina and Origo.
Brushed Stainless Steel, the quiet workhorse
Cooler and more neutral than Graphite, Brushed Stainless Steel is the finish that disappears into a room in the best way: durable, low-maintenance, and equally at home in a kitchen or a bathroom. It's the finish to reach for when the room's character is coming from elsewhere (tile, stone, joinery) and the tapware's job is simply to perform well and stay out of the way.
Available across Attivo, Aurum, Velina and Origo.
Brushed Champagne and Brushed Rose Gold, Origo's softer metals
Where Satin Brass leans warm and saturated, Brushed Champagne and Brushed Rose Gold, available within the Origo collection, sit lighter and softer. They bring a similar warmth to a space without the depth of a true brass tone, which makes them a good middle ground for anyone drawn to metallics but hesitant about committing to something as rich as Satin Brass.
Best against: soft neutrals, blush and warm-white palettes, brushed or honed stone.
Chrome, the finish that never dates
There's a reason chrome has outlasted every finish trend that's come and gone around it. It's bright, it's clean, and it works with genuinely anything, which makes it the safest starting point for a renovation where the rest of the palette isn't locked in yet, or for a resale-minded bathroom where broad appeal matters more than a strong point of view.
Choosing the right finish for your bathroom
If you're still deciding, the shortest version is this: let the room lead. A bathroom with strong material choices already in play (bold tile, dark timber, a statement stone) usually wants a finish that agrees with that mood rather than competes with it: Satin Brass for warmth, Double Black for contrast. A bathroom still finding its identity, or one built around neutral, mixed materials, is usually better served by something quieter: Graphite, Brushed Stainless Steel, or classic Chrome.
